By Sr Christina Dolan:

In late April every year, Presentation Sisters the world over are united in remembering the death of their Foundress, Venerable Nano Nagle.

After a lifetime of heroic service to poor children in her native city, Cork,  this ‘Lady of the Lantern '  was called to her well-deserved Heaven.  The date was April 26th 1784.  At the age of 65 her life on earth was over but her legacy of compassion and service to the poor has remained alive among her thousands of followers over the centuries.

A woman who spent many dangerous years traversing Cork City's dank passageways in her relentless quest for education for the poorest children and to bring comfort to the destitute,  could hardly have imagined what an international legacy she was leaving behind.   From Australia, New Zealand, India, Pakistan, Philippines, to the United States, Canada, South America & Europe,  Venerable Nano's Sisters continue to live her Charism with love.

Here in our own English Province, founded in industrial Manchester in 1836, we too faithfully remember and celebrate the 238th anniversary of our beloved Foundress.
