Our Mission
Bringing the light of Christ
Who we are
We are a religious community of Catholic sisters that exist to bring the light of Christ to those who are most in need.
We live lives of contemplative prayer and service to the poor, striving to uphold the dignity of all.
Our community was originally founded in 1775 in Ireland for the education of the poor and the relief of those exploited by unjust systems.
Today, this work is carried out by our 60 sisters in 16 different communities across England and in the Holy Land.

Voted ‘Ireland’s Greatest Woman’ and described as ‘the kind of person to win a Nobel Prize’, Nano Nagle lived an incredible life of service.
What we do
Today, we are engaged in a diverse range of ministries, including supporting refugees & asylum seekers, assisting the homeless, befriending the lonely and offering spiritual development and pastoral ministry.
We live lives in fidelity to the Gospel and we are committed to the education and care of the vulnerable and powerless.

Trusting in God, like Mary
We look to Mary of Nazareth to inspire us in discipleship and to help us discern the ways of wisdom. Her presentation invites us to a joyful, whole-hearted giving of ourselves to God. Her yes to the Incarnation calls us to a deep attentiveness to the creative Spirit in our lives and to treasure this awareness in our hearts.
In her great song the Magnificat, we hear the invitation to trust in God’s gracious providence and to proclaim God’s faithfulness to the dispossessed of this world.
A culture of safeguarding
We recognise the personal dignity, uniqueness and rights of all children, young people and vulnerable adults towards whom we have a special responsibility and a duty of care. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting good practice in ministry by all our sisters, staff, associates and volunteers at all times. We consider the welfare of all children, young people and vulnerable adults to be paramount.
